    Description and Application
  • A nurse intern, working under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, performs various clinical and health-related duties in Novus medical facilities. They may observe RNs, assist with patient tasks such as vital signs, lab draw, medical history and physical, medication reconciliation and administer medication. The intern also learns about medical histories, reports unusual findings, and may participate in cleaning and other duties.

  • Length of time: 8-12 weeks depending on student availability

    Hours: 20 to 40 hours per week

    Pay rate: $ 25.00/hr. & 2 scrub outfits

    Eligibility: previous clinical experience, upcoming Senior class

    Onboarding Clearance: Child Abuse & FBI, drug screening and hep B vaccination documentation

    Supervision and Guidance:
    ● Nurse interns work closely with experienced RNs, receiving guidance and instruction on proper procedures and protocols. 

    Patient Care:
    ● Interns assist with basic patient care tasks and reporting patient conditions. 

    Clinical Skills:
    ● Interns gain hands-on experience with various clinical skills, including medication administration and patient assessment. 

    Learning and Development:
    ● Internships provide opportunities for students to learn from experienced nurses, build professional networks, and explore different areas of nursing. 

    Professional Development:
    ● Internships may include participation in professional development activities such as workshops and seminars, further enhancing the intern's knowledge and skills. 

    Clinical Duties: Patient Care

    Taking Vital Signs: 

    ● Measuring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, and height/weight. 

    Assisting with Examinations: 

    ● Preparing patients for exams, ensuring comfort, and assisting providers during examinations. 

    Administering Medications: 

    ● Administering oral, injectable, and topical medications under the supervision of a registered nurse. 

    Collecting & Processing Specimens: 

    ● Obtaining blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing. Processing specimens in centrifuge and aliquot.

    Performing Lab Tests: 

    ● Performing CLIA waived testing.

     Patient Education: 

    ● Provide patients with approved instructions on medications, procedures, and other health-related information. 

    Phlebotomy: 

    ● Drawing blood from patients for various medical tests and procedures. 

    Administrative Duties:

    Scheduling: 

    ● Scheduling patient appointments, processing referrals, and managing the provider’s schedule. 

    Medical Records: 

    ● Maintaining accurate and organized patient medical records, including medical histories, vital signs, and treatment plans. 

    Insurance and Billing: 

    ● Processing insurance claims, handling billing inquiries, and updating patient insurance information. 

    Patient Communication: 

    ● Greeting patients, checking them in and out, and answering patient inquiries. 

    Inventory Management: 

    ● Maintaining and stocking medical supplies and equipment.
